Few people are more vulnerable<\/strong> and in need of assistance than young girls subjected to domestic violence, sex abuse or human trafficking.

We provide refuge and care for young girls<\/strong> who have endured unthinkable experiences<\/strong> of abuse, exploitation, and neglect. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Project Manager Ann Soldner is a certified Trauma and Grief Counselor and the recipient of TLC\u2019s \u201cTrauma Consultant Supervisor of the Year Award\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ann leads group therapy <\/strong>sessions weekly for the resident girls. The classes include a variety of arts and crafts projects<\/strong>, learning new songs and dances, rhythm and relaxation exercises, games, music, story-telling, drama, and LOTS <\/strong>of love and laughter!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The girls benefit greatly by these regular times to relax, de-stress, express themselves creatively, explore emotions<\/strong>, share ideas and enjoy each other\u2019s friendship<\/strong> and camaraderie<\/strong>. Many arrive withdrawn, silent, and struggling with the weight of trauma, but here, they find a new beginning.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Self-expression<\/strong> and play helps children to develop interpersonal skills<\/strong>, reduce stress and increase self-esteem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At present most of the girls attend public school<\/strong>, plus receive a variety of vocational training options at the Shelter. Many have graduated<\/strong> from High School, something beyond the reach of most rural girls, and several are studying for university degrees<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

Since 2004 we have assisted the shelter by finding sponsors<\/strong> to help cover their monthly operational needs: rent<\/strong>, food<\/strong>, utilities<\/strong>, and staff salaries<\/strong>; channeling whatever extra funds we can come up with toward maintenance <\/strong>and special improvements<\/strong> as often as possible.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
